Understanding TDS

Follow

TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids and is a measurement of the sum of all solids dissolved in the water. When your TDS gets too high, above 1500ppm after subtracting the salt level, it can cause a whole range of problems with your pool water and equipment.  Some of the issues you can encounter when your TDS is too high are eye and skin irritation. It can interfere with the normal workings of your sanitizer, permit algae blooms even with the correct amount of chlorine, cause corrosion and staining of the pool and equipment.  The only way to reduce the TDS is by diluting the pool water.  The SafeDip will measure up to 9999ppm TDS, anything over that will show a “- -.“
